According to the National Association of Pet Care Products
Manufacturers, over 63% of US families own a pet of some kind.
Interestingly, they also report that, in 2007, there are some 74 million
dogs and 88 million cats living with us. That’s a lot of love for sure, but it is also a
lot of waste and it is important to understand the “eco” effects of animal waste just
as we do human waste.
Let’s do the math…74 million dogs that need a daily walk likely means that 74 million or so plastic bags
are also being used every day…that’s more than 30 billion plastic bags filling our landfills every year. And on
average, it takes a plastic bag up to 40 years to decompose.
Dog Day Afternoons, Inc. understands that no single effort can save our planet and keep it green but we are
committed to do our part. For starters, we use completely biodegradable “mutt mitts” to capture the waste of our pets and we have also provided
sample mitts to our customers so they can see how well they work.
Below are photos of how the mitt fits on your hand. At the end is the waste receptacle which, after use, is
